How to get to Pongwe Beach

To get to Pongwe Beach, you’ll first need to travel to Zanzibar Island, which is located off the coast of Tanzania. The easiest way to reach Zanzibar is by flying into Zanzibar International Airport, Kisauni.

From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a shared shuttle to Pongwe Beach. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes depending on traffic. Another option is to arrange for a private transfer with your hotel or tour operator in advance. Organizing your private transfer in advance is the best option if you visit for a Holiday, price ranges $35 – $40.

If you’re traveling from mainland Tanzania, you can take a ferry from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar, which takes approximately 2 hours. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a shared shuttle to Pongwe Beach.

Some people use Daladala of Uroa because it is a cheap option, but be prepared for an uncomfortable ride, especially if you’re prone to motion sickness.
